The fashion pages!

Yo yo yo. We're back in black, although ironically, not in black at all, unless you're an architect. Only architects have the awareness of line to carry off black at the present time. Anyway it's time for another edition of the fashion column. I must be getting better at fashion writing because there's no way in hell I could have said "awareness of line" two years ago.

It's difficult to say what the big news for spring/ summer 2012 will be. I think the unusual weather has confused things. Fake fur is everywhere which is nice because it implies making more effort and getting dressed up where the past few years have been a lot more low key.

Knee length skirts are the only real skirt trend at the moment. Leggings or tights work well with these, as do legwarmers. Be careful you don't end up looking like you've just stepped off Broadway. Think practical. Other skirt lengths and styles aren't out of fashion, so if you've found a look that you like and which suits you (pleats, maxi skirts, mini skirts), keep on keeping on.

The Boho look is big news as are prints. You can either go full whack or just add in a touch of this, say a nice scarf or top. That and vests. Vests are going to be Hot Stuff in 2012. Mark my words. Spaghetti straps, racer backs, slash necks, you name it, you'll see it.

New rave, as ever, lives on.

Make up is also creeping back in. Go easy on yourself and experiment with colours. Decide first and foremost, what look you're aiming for (day, evening, disco) and go from there.

Men, you know the score. The Amazing Alexis Petridis has stopped writing about fashion in the Guardian, but the old columns are on the website (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/series/alexispetridiscolumn). I wouldn't worry too much about things dating as unless you're a massive fashion freak, men's fashion doesn't change that much. I'd say it's moving in the direction of neutrals and classics. But to be honest, if you're a massive fashion freak, what are you doing reading the bedroom ramblings of a 32-year old charity shop obsessive?

Bye for now.
